O’ROURKE NAMED 2007 SUNY COBLESKILL FEMALE AHTLETE-OF-THE-YEAR
The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department announced today that senior Erinn O’Rourke of South Glens Falls, NY has been named as the athletic program’s 2007 Fred Bennett Women's Outstanding Female Athlete-of-the-Year. O’Rourke was honored with the award at the college’s recent Athletic Awards Convocation. The South Glens Falls High School alumnus was a two-year standout in women’s outdoor track & field as well as a two-year starter for the Fighting Tiger women's basketball team serving as captain this past year.
On the track, O’Rourke earned All-Mountain Valley Conference honors as a freshman winning the league’s championship in the High Jump then was a two-time all-conference honoree as a senior as part of the Fighting Tigers’ conference championship 4 X 100 Meter and 4 X 400 Meter Relays. In 2007 she won the NJCAA Region III Heptathlon Championship to earn a place on the NJCAA All-Region III Team individually and also earned all-regional honors as part of Cobleskill’s championship 4 X 100 Meter Relay. O’Rourke closed out her career on a high note at the 2007 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships winning the national title in the Heptathlon to earn NJCAA First Team All-American honors while earning second team NJCAA All-American honors as part of the program’s second place 4 X 100 Meter Relay and 4 X 400 Meter Relay.
As a member of the Fighting Tiger women’s basketball program O’Rourke was selected to the All-Mountain Valley Conference Second Team after helping the team to a 22-7 overall record including a 13-3 league record on the way to a second place finish in conference play. On the season the South Glens, NY native averaged 6.9 points, 3.9 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 3.6 steals per contest connecting on 83 of 195 field goal attempts for a percentage of 42.6 from the floor.
During her Cobleskill career on the hardwood the program posted 46-12 overall record the best two-year total in program history while making back-to-back NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament appearances.
Named in honor of former Fighting Tiger Athletic Director Fred Bennett, the award is presented annually to the Cobleskill senior athlete whose career has been deemed by the college’s athletic staff to be the most outstanding of all female student/athletes in the program.
