ROCKEFELLER NAMED COBLESKILL SCHOLAR/ATHLETE AWARD WINNER
SUNY Cobleskill men’s baseball team member Ryan Rockefeller, Bolivar, NY, Richburg-Bolivar High School, has been awarded the Nick Iorio Men’s Scholar Athlete Award for being the Fighting Tiger’s top student/athlete by the school’s athletic program. The senior Wildlifemajor compiled over a 3.80 grade point average while earning All-Mountain Valley Conference honors during both of his years in the Cobleskill program.
During his Fighting Tiger playing career the fleet-footed, lead-off hitting centerfielder earned Second Team All-Mountain Valley Conference honors as a freshman helping the program to its first post-season appearance since the 1995 season. At the plate the Richburg-Bolivar High School alumnus went 72-for-212 for a .340 career batting average that included: 30 walks, 10 doubles, two triples and 28 RBI. In 62 career games as the team’s lead-off hitter Rockefeller also scored 48 runs and stole 12 bases during his career with a career on-base percentage of .429.
Defensively the Bolivar, NY native was near flawless while covering the considerable power alleys of Fighting Tiger Field recording 123 put outs while being credited with 11 assists and only three errors in 137 chances handled for a fielding percentage of .978.
The Iorio Award is named for Cobleskill’s former Dead of Students, Athletic Director and Coach Nick Iorio. It is given to the male student/athlete who has combined an outstanding academic record with a successful playing career.
