FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 10/16/06
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s volleyball program posted their second consecutive Mountain Valley Conference Championship winning a pair of road contests this week defeating Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY on Thursday by scores of 30-15, 30-18 and 30-12 then beating Delhi Tech on Saturday by scores of 30-15, 30-18 and 30-23. The Fighting Tigers finish the conference season with a perfect 7-0 overall record, 16-5 overall, and did not lose a single game in league match this season. The Cobleskill senior class finishes their careers with a perfect 14-0 conference record during their time in the program.
The Fighting Tiger men’s soccer program continued their march towards the school record for most wins in a single season this week posting victories over visiting Mountain Valley Conference rival Adirondack Community College by a 3-0 margin on Wednesday then traveling to Watertown, NY on Saturday to claim a 9-0 win over Jefferson Community College. The team now pushes their season mark to 13-1 on the year including a 5-1 conference record. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked sixth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll. Freshman goalkeeper Josh Oxentine, Stillwater, NY, Stillwater High School, posted a shutout victory in his first career start on Wednesday over Adirondack recording five saves then relieved in the Jefferson win making five saves to preserve the shutout.
Freshman April Ackermann, Cochecton, NY, Sullivan West High School, led the women’s cross country team to a second place finish at the 2006 “Mountaineer Invitational” hosted by Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT on Saturday. Ackermann posted her fifth invitational victory of the season completing the 2.8 mile course in a time of 18:02. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked second in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Cobleskill men’s cross country team posted a team score of 45 points to bring home a second place finish from the 2006 “Mountaineer Invitational” hosted by Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT on Saturday. Senior captain Zak Locke, Petersburg, NY, Berlin High School, posted a career best seventh place finish completing the 4.25 mile mountain loop in a time of 27:08. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked seventh in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The women’s soccer program dropped losing to Bryant & Stratton College on Thursday at home by a 2-1 count they traveling to Watertown, NY to drop a 4-1 decision to the Cannoneers of Jefferson Community College by a score of 4-1. Freshman Amy Bower, Jefferson, NY, Jefferson High School, scored against Jefferson. The Fighting Tigers are currently 2-10 on the season.
