FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 10/9/06
The Fighting Tiger men’s soccer team broke into the top ten in the nation earning the number ten spot in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll. Cobleskill celebrated their highest national ranking since the 2000 season by traveling to Batavia, NY on Monday to defeat number fourteen ranked Genesee Community College by a 5-1 margin and then on Wednesday shutting out visiting Cayuga Community College by a score of 3-0. Senior Hugh Campbell, Bronx, NY, Evander Childs High School, scored three goals in the victories for Cobleskill which has now moved their season record to 11-1 on the year.
The Cobleskill volleyball program took another step towards repeating as Mountain Valley Conference Champions traveling to Utica, NY on Wednesday to defeat Mohawk Valley Community College by scores of 30-17, 30-18 and 30-20. Senior outside hitter Amanda Carfora, Wallkill, NY, Wallkill High School, led the way for the Fighting Tigers with a 14 kill, five block, two ace performance. The Fighting Tigers are currently 14-5 overall with a 4-0 record in league play. The team is currently ranked tenth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger women’s soccer team dropped two of three games during the week losing home games on Monday to Word of Life Bible Institute on Monday by a score of 3-2 in overtime then falling to Genesee Community College on Thursday by a 3-1 margin. On Tuesday Cobleskill posted a 4-1 road victory over Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY to push their season record to 2-8 on the year. Senior defender Bethany Garretson, Cherry Valley, NY, Cherry Valley-Springfield High School, tallied a goal and an assist during the week for the Fighting Tigers.
Freshman April Ackermann, Cochecton, NY, Sullivan West High School, was named the NJCAA Region III Female Athlete-of-the-Week by the Region III Service Bureau. Ackermann, a member of the Fighting Tiger Cross Country program, won the LeMoyne College “Dolphin Invitational” on Saturday September 30th defeating a field of 83 runners in the race by covering the 5000 Meter course in a time of 20:08.
