FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 11/13/06
The Fighting Tiger women’s cross country team posted a score of 67 points to tie for second place at the 2006 NJCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Alfred State College in Alfred, NY on Saturday. Freshman April Ackermann, Cochecton, NY, Sullivan West High School, became the first women to win an individual NJCAA National Championship in Fighting Tiger program history as she completed the mountainous 5000 meter course in a time of 21:25 to also earn First Team All-American honors. Freshman Sarah Furman, West Berne, NY, Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, placed tenth overall in a time of 23:00 to earn Second Team NJCAA All-American honors for the Fighting Tigers.
Senior Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, earned First Team NJCAA All-American honors at the placed fifth at the 2006 NJCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Alfred State College in Alfred, NY on Saturday. Levens placed fifth overall completing the 8000 meter course in a time of 30:22 to lead the Fighting Tigers to a fifth place finish at the national meet with a team score of 159 points.
The Fighting Tiger men’s basketball team evened their season record at 2-2 on the year after defeating Clinton Community College on Saturday in Plattsburgh, NY by a 64-61 margin. The team had early in the week dropped a pair of road contests on Tuesday losing to defending NJCAA Region III Champion Finger Lakes Community College 81-80 in overtime then falling to Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY on Thursday by a 87-78 score. Freshman forward Anthony Armstead, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, averaged 18.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest in the week’s action.
The Fighting Tiger women’s basketball team opened the Mountain Valley Conference season on Thursday by posting a 58-49 overtime victory over visiting Herkimer Community College on Thursday night then traveled to Coring, NY on Saturday to defeat Corning Community College by a 57-49 margin. Senior forward Kim McMillen, Greenville, NY, Greenville High School, was the team’s leading scorer in both victories posting 16 points to go with nine rebounds against Herkimer the tallying a career high 22 points while grabbing 10 rebounds versus Corning. The Fighting Tigers open the season with a 3-0 overall recording including a 1-0 mark versus league opponents.
