FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 11/20/06
The Fighting Tiger men’s basketball team pushed their record to 4-2 on the season defeating Mountain Valley Conference rival Schenectady Community College on Monday by a 76-41 margin on the Royals home court then downing visiting Corning Community College on Thursday by a score of 87-66. Freshman forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in the victories for Cobleskill.
Senior NJCAA All-American Gabrielle Asay, Greenfield Center, NY, led the Fighting Tiger women’s swimming & diving team to the Championship of the 2006 Donald Macomber Starting Block Invitational in Cobleskill, NY on Wednesday winning the 200 Individual Medley, 2:41.46, and the 100 Butterfly, 1:09.00, while placing second in the 50 Freestyle, 27.55. Over the weekend Asay helped Cobleskill to a second place finish at the Harvest Invitational hosted by Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY, by winning the 100 Freestyle, 1:00.51, and placing second in the 500 Freestyle, 6:16.10, and the 200 Backstroke, 2:32.17.
The Fighting Tiger men’s swimming & diving team placed second at the 2006 Donald Macomber Starting Block Invitational on Wednesday in Cobleskill, NY then brought home a fourth place finish from the Harvest Invitational hosted by Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY, over the weekend. Senior Matt Hatlee, Cobleskill, NY, Schoharie High School, led the Fighting Tigers on Wednesday winning the 50 Freestyle, 22.47, the 100 Freestyle, 53.35, and the 100 Breaststroke, 1:11.37, at the Macomber Invitational then over the weekend placing second in the 100 Freestyle, 52.02, and second in the 200 Backstroke, 2:17.65, at the Harvest Invitational.
The women’s basketball program fell to 4-2 on the season dropping a pair of games at the 2006 Cayuga Community College Holiday Tournament in Auburn, NY over the weekend. Cobleskill dropped a 70-68 decision to Dean Junior College on Saturday then fell to the host Spartans of Cayuga Community College on Sunday in the consolation game by a 54-53 margin. Senior guard/forward Kim Stahl, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, averaged 23.0 points per game in the tournament for Cobleskill to earn a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
