FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 12/4/06
The Fighting Tiger men’s basketball team pushed their season record to 7-2 on the year, including a 3-0 record in Mountain Valley Conference play, with a pair of home wins defeating Broome Community College 84-64 on Tuesday night then stopping Hudson Valley Community College on Friday evening by a 78-75 margin. Freshman forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, scored 26 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in the Hudson Valley victory.
The Cobleskill women’s basketball team won two of three games during the week falling at home to Broome Community College by a 72-46 margin on Tuesday, then defeating visiting Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday 62-50 before traveling to Plattsburgh, NY on Saturday to beat Clinton Community College by a score of 74-33. Senior guard/forward Kim Stahl, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, tossed in 24 points in the win over Clinton on Saturday as the Fighting Tigers bettered their overall record to 7-3 on the year with a 2-0 mark in Mountain Valley Conference play.
Freshman swimmer Matt Hatlee, Cobleskill, NY, Schoharie High School, won the 50 Freestyle, 22.85, the 100 Freestyle, 52.08, and the 100 Breaststroke, 1:09.62, to lead the Fighting Tiger men’s swimming & diving team to a second place finish at the 2006 SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational hosted by SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers posted a team score of 218 points to take the second spot in the field of six teams.
The Fighting Tiger women’s swimming & diving team posted a team score of 186 points to place third overall at the 2006 SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational hosed by SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY on Saturday. Freshman distance swimmer Megan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, won the 500 Freestyle, 6:48.19, and the 1650 Freestyle, 23:45.70, for the Fighting Tigers.
Senior thrower Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, placed second for the men’s indoor track & field team in the Weight Toss with a new program record effort of 47’9 ¼” at the 2006 Wesleyan University Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT on Saturday. Robinson’s toss also met the NJCAA National Championship Meet Qualifying Standard. The 2006 Indoor National Championships will be hosted by Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX on March 2nd & March 3rd of 2007.
Freshman Jennifer Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, established a new women’s indoor track & field program record in the Pole Vault at the 2006 Wesleyan University Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT on Saturday. The talented freshman won the event by clearing a height of 9’ 0 ¼”.
