FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 10/8/07

The Fighting Tiger men’s soccer team took to the road on Wednesday to defeat Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY by a 4-1. Freshman midfielder David Gardiner, Malta, NY, Ballston Spa High School, scored a goal and passed out an assist for Cobleskill which improves its record to 12-1 on the season. The Orange & Black are currently ranked fifth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.

The Cobleskill women’s soccer team split a pair of games during the week defeating visiting Cayuga Community College on Tuesday by a score of 3-1 then traveling to Batavia, NY on Thursday to drop a 2-1 decision to host Genesee Community College. Freshman midfielder Liz Goyette, Ferrisburgh, VT, Vergennes Union High School, posted two goals during the week for the Fighting Tigers who are currently 6-6 overall on the season.

The Fighting Tiger volleyball program opened the week by dropping a hard fought decision to visiting Mountain Valley Conference rival Mohawk Valley Community College on Wednesday by scores of 30-28, 26-30, 30-27, 20-30 and 12-15. Cobleskill then traveled to Purchase, NY on Saturday to meet SUNY Purchase and CUNY Tech in triangular action defeating Purchase by scores of 30-17, 30-27 and 30-21 and beating CUNY Tech by scores of 30-12, 30-15 and 30-13. Freshman setter Kristen Kukan, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, turned in a 35 assist performance in the victory. The Fighting Tigers are currently 13-5 overall on the season with a 2-1 record in Mountain Valley Conference play.

The doubles team of freshman Kristin Ely, Binghamton, NY, Susquehanna Valley High School, and senior Erin Seyforth, Hamden, NY, Delaware Academy, posted the Fighting Tigers’ lone victory in the team’s final match of the season in an 8-1 defeat to visiting Mohawk Valley Community College on Tuesday. The Cobleskill second doubles squad won the match by an 8-4 score in a pro-set. The loss closes out the season the Orange & Black with a 1-7 overall record on the year including a 1-5 mark in conference action.
