FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 10/15/07
The Fighting Tiger men’s soccer team captured the Mountain Valley Conference Co-Championship on Wednesday by posting an 8-0 road victory over Adirondack Community College then closed the week by defeating visiting Jefferson Community College by an 11-0 margin on Saturday. Freshman midfielder/forward Ryan Stevens, Niskayuna, NY, Christian Brothers Academy, scored four goals and passed out two assists in the victories as Cobleskill moved to 14-1 on the season. The Orange & Black are currently ranked third in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll and first in the NJCAA Region III Division III Coaches Poll.
Freshman Nick O’Neil, Ballston Spa, NY, Ballston Spa High School, captured the individual championship of the 2007 Mountaineer Cross Country Invitational hosted by Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT on Saturday establishing a new course record by covering the 5.1 mile course in a time of 29:44. Led by O’Neil’s effort the Fighting Tiger men posted a perfect score of 15 points to capture the team title at the event. Cobleskill is currently ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Cobleskill women’s cross country team posted a perfect score of 15 points to win the 2007 Mountaineer Cross Country Invitational hosted by Southern Vermont College in Bennington, VT on Saturday. Defending NJCAA Division III National Champion senior April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, won the individual title at the event establishing a new course record by covering the 5000 meter loop in a time of 21:04.
Freshman setter Kristan Kukan, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, led the women’s volleyball team to a sweep of visiting Mountain Valley Conference rival Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday evening by scores of 30-10, 30-26 and 30-10. Kukan passed out 25 assists on the evening and had two service aces as the Fighting Tigers improved their overall season record to 14-5 on the year with a 3-1 mark versus conference opponents.
The Fighting Tiger women’s soccer team kept their post-season hopes alive this week by traveling to Syracuse, NY on Wednesday to defeat NJCAA Division I member Bryant & Stratton College by a 4-3 score then easily handling visiting Jefferson Community College on Saturday by a score of 6-0. Senior midfielder Kayla Wisniewski, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, scored three goals for Cobleskill in the win over Jefferson as the Orange & Black improve their record to 8-6 overall on the season.
