FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 10/29/07
On a rain soaked course in Delhi, NY the Fighting Tiger men’s cross country team posted a team score of 55 points to run to a second place finish at the 2007 NJCAA Region III Division III Championships hosted by SUNY Delhi at the Delhi Golf & Country Club on Saturday. Cobleskill was led by freshman Kevin Wippel, Pine Bush, NY, Pine Bush High School, who placed sixth covering the five-mile loop in a time of 30:01 to earn Second Team All-NJCAA Region III honors as did freshman Nick O’Neal, Ballston Spa, NY, Ballston Spa High School, in ninth place at 30:39 and freshman Dan Bulson, St. Petersburg, NY, Berlin High School, in tenth place in 30:40. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked third in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll and have now qualified for the 2007 NJCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Suffolk Community College on Saturday November 10th at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, NY.
Senior April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, led the Cobleskill women’s cross country team to a team score of 75 points and a second place finish at the 2007 NJCAA Region III Division III Championships hosted by SUNY Delhi at the Delhi Golf & Country Club in Delhi, NY on Saturday. Ackermann placed second overall to earn First Team All-Region III honors covering the waterlogged 5000 meter course in a time of 21:06. Fighting Tiger Head Coach Mitchell Tomaszkiewicz was named the 2007 NJCAA Region III Division III Women’s Cross Country Coach-of-the-Year for the second consecutive season. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked fifth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll and have now qualified for the 2007 NJCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Suffolk Community College on Saturday November 10th at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, NY.
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s soccer team lost to Herkimer Community College in the NJCAA Region III Division III Championship game by a 1-0 margin at Tompkins-Cortland Community College in Dryden, NY on Sunday. The Fighting Tigers advance to the championship by defeating visiting Finger Lakes Community College on Tuesday 3-2 then tied Mohawk Valley Community College in the regional semifinal 1-1 advancing to the championship via a 4-3 penalty-kick shootout. Freshman forward Lucas Heffron, Lansing, NY, Lansing High School, scored the game winning goal versus Finger Lakes on a 20-yard direct kick with 6:17 remaining in regulation then scored the game tying goal against Mohawk Valley with 3:13 left in the game on a shot from 25-yards out. The Fighting Tigers close the season with a program best 16-2-1 overall record.
The Cobleskill women’s volleyball team posted a 3-2 road victory over host Tompkins-Cortland Community College in Dryden, NY on Wednesday by scores of 30-19, 26-30, 30-25, 20-30 and 15-8. Freshman Nichole Hunt, St. Johnsville, NY, Dolgeville High School, led the way for the Orange & Black with 19 kills, 12 digs, and seven aces. The Fighting Tigers are currently 16-6 overall on the season and are seeded fifth for the 2007 NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Tournament to be hosted this weekend by Alfred State College in Alfred, NY .
