FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 12/3/07
Fighting Tiger men’s indoor track & field team member freshman Patrick Krug, Averill Park, NY, Averill Park High School, established a new program record in the Pole Vault at the 2007 Wesleyan College Indoor Track & Field Invitational hosted by Wesleyan College in Middletown, CT on Saturday. Krug won the event and met the NJCAA National Qualifying Standard with a record vault of 15’0”.
The Cobleskill men’s basketball team dropped a pair of road decisions during the week falling to Broome Community College on Tuesday by a score of 56-52 then dropping an 89-75 decision to Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY on Friday evening in Mountain Valley Conference play. Senior forward Stanley Francois, Suffern, NY, Suffern High School, posted a double/double on Friday night versus Hudson Valley with 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Fighting Tigers are currently 7-2 overall on the season with a 2-1 record in league play. Cobleskill is currently ranked third in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The women’s basketball team took two-of-three games this week dropping a 57-38 road decision to Broome Community College in Binghamton, NY on Tuesday then defeating Mountain Valley Conference rival Hudson Valley Community College on Thursday in Troy, NY by a 74-56 margin. The Fighting Tigers closed the week by defeating visiting Clinton Community College on Saturday by a score of 53-30. Freshman center Shelley Pierson, Watervliet, NY, Watervliet High School, averaged 14.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots per game during the week. Cobleskill is currently ranked fifth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll with an 8-1 overall record including a 2-0 mark versus conference competition.
The Fighting Tiger women’s swimming & diving team posted a score of 181 points to place third in a field of eight teams at the SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational hosted by SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY on Saturday. Senior distance performer Megan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, posted NJCAA National qualifying performances in three events finishing third in the 1650 Freestyle in a time of 23:55.61, third in the 500 Freestyle in 6:57.14 and fourth in the 200 Freestyle in a time of 2:35.19.
Women’s indoor track & field team member senior Jen Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, won the Long Jump at the 2007 Wesleyan College Indoor Track & Field Invitational hosted by Wesleyan College in Middletown, CT on Saturday. Villanova posted a mark of 16’11 ½” to capture the event for Cobleskill.
