FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 9/10/07
On Tuesday, the SUNY Cobleskill men’s soccer team defeated visiting Mountain Valley Conference rival Herkimer Community College by a 2-1 margin handing the NJCAA Division III ranked number two ranked Generals their first loss in NJCAA Region III Division III play since September of 2002. Cobleskill then defeated visiting Clinton Community College on Saturday by a score of 7-0. Freshman midfielder Steven Medwinter, St. Albans, NY, Erasmus Hall High School, scored the game winning goal versus Herkimer for the Fighting Tiger. The Orange & Black are currently 4-0 overall with a 1-0 mark in league play and ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger men’s cross country team posted their second invitational victory of the season winning the championship of the 2007 Castleton State College Invitational hosted by Castleton State College in Castleton, VT on Saturday with a score of 32 points. Freshman Dan Bulson, Petersburg, NY, Berlin High School, placed second on the day covering the 8000 meter course in a time of 29:33.25 for Cobleskill which is currently ranked third in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Senior NJCAA All-American April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, led the Fighting Tiger women’s cross country team to a second place finish at the 2007 Castleton College Invitational hosted by Castleton State College in Castleton, VT on Saturday with a team score of 39 points. Ackermann won the individual championship of the invitational covering the rain soaked 5000 meter course in a time of 20:23.37. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked first in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The SUNY Cobleskill women’s volleyball team opened the 2007 season by advancing to the semifinals of the Hawk Invitational hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Saturday. The Fighting Tigers moved out of the pool play round by defeating Adirondack Community College by scores of 30-14 and 30-25 and by turning back Fulton-Montgomery Community College by scores of 30-23 and 30-27. Cobleskill lost to Alfred State College in pool play by margins of 30-21 and 30-16 before falling to the host Hawks of Mohawk Valley by scores of 30-14 and 30-25. Senior outside hitter Brianna Holcomb, Glens Falls, NY, Glens Falls High School, led the Fighting Tigers with 16 kills, seven blocks and seven digs in the match. The Orange & Black are currently 2-2 on the season.
The women’s soccer team dropped a pair of decisions this week traveling to Herkimer Community College in Herkimer, NY on Wednesday to drop a 4-0 decision in Mountain Valley Conference action the falling to visiting Albany College of Pharmacy on Saturday in double overtime by a 2-1 margin. Senior forward Danielle Lum, Cincinnatus, NY, Cincinnatus High School scored the lone goal for the Fighting Tigers who are currently 2-0 on the season to date.
