FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 9/17/07
The Fighting Tiger women’s volleyball program captured the championship of the 2007 Raider Invitational hosted by Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, NY on Saturday. Cobleskill advanced out of the pool-play round defeating Adirondack Community College by scores of 30-18, 30-15 and 30-17 before losing to Broome Community College by margins of 28-30, 30-20, 26-30, 30-19 and 3-15. The team then rallied to defeated Mohawk Valley Community College by scores of 18-30, 34-32 and 18-16 then returned in the championship to defeat Broome Community College for the title 38-36, 26-30 and 16-14. Freshman setter Kristen Kukan, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, was named the tournament’s Most-Valuable- Player contributing 69 assists on the day to go with 13 service aces, 11 digs and nine kills. Freshman outside hitter Lindsey Leagult, Hudson Falls, NY, Hudson Falls High School, also earned All-Tournament Team honors for the Orange & Black posting 15 kills, eight digs and two aces on the day. The Fighting Tigers’ overall record currently stands at 5-3 on the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Cory Lewis, Plattsburgh, NY, Chazy High School, posted a pair of Mountain Valley Conferences shutout road wins for the Cobleskill men’s soccer team this week as the Fighting Tigers defeated SUNY Delhi 1-0 on Monday then came back on Wednesday to beat Hudson Valley Community College by an identical 1-0 margin this time in overtime. The Fighting Tigers are currently 6-0 on the year with a perfect 3-0 in conference play and are currently ranked fourth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger men’s cross country team posted a team score of 80 points to place third in a field of fourteen teams at the 2007 Baptist Bible Invitational hosted by Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA on Saturday. Freshman Dan Bulson, Petersburg, NY, Berlin High School, placed tenth in the field of 110 runners covering the hilly 7950 meter course in time of 28:38.53 for Cobleskill who are currently ranked third in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Senior NJCAA All-American April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, placed second in a field of 101 runners at the 2007 Baptist Bible Invitational hosted by Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA on Saturday. Ackermann completed the hilly 5000 meter course in a time of 20:03.56 to lead the Fighting Tigers to a fifth place finish in the field of 14 teams. Cobleskill is currently ranked first in the current NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger women’s soccer team dropped a pair of Mountain Valley Conference home contests during the week falling to SUNY Delhi on Wednesday by a 3-2 margin then fell to Hudson Valley Community College by a score of 5-2 on Saturday. Senior midfielder Kayla Wisniewski, Scotia, NY, Scotia-Glenville High School, had a goal and a pair of assists for the Orange & Black on the week as the team fell to 0-4 on the year with a 0-3 mark in league play.
The Cobleskill women’s tennis team opened the year dropping a pair of road decisions losing to Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Tuesday by a score of 6-0 then falling on Thursday to SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY by a 6-3 tally. Freshman Kristin Ely, Binghamton, NY, Susquehanna Valley High School, won at the number two singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 as the Orange & Black now have 0-2 record.
