FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 9/24/07
Senior midfielder Essaha Jallow, Bronx, NY, Dewitt Clinton High School, scored a pair of goals to lead the Fighting Tiger men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Albany College of Pharmacy on Friday. The victory pushes the Cobleskill overall season record to 8-0 on the year. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked second in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger men’s cross country team posted a team score of 78 points to place second in a field of 16 teams at the 2007 Raptor Invitational on Saturday hosted by Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. Freshman Nick O’Neil, Ballston Spa, NY, Ballston Spa High School, placed tenth in the field of 122 runners for Cobleskill covering the 8000 meter course in a time of 27:54. Cobleskill is currently ranked third in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
SUNY Cobleskill senior NJCAA All-American April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, captured the individual title against a field of 105 participants at the 2007 Raptor Invitational hosted by Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY on Saturday covering the 5000 meter course in a time of 20:41. The Fighting Tigers placed third versus the 16 team field posting a team score of 87 points on the day. Cobleskill is currently ranked first in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger women’s volleyball team posted a thrilling come-from-behind road win on Tuesday versus Fulton-Montgomery Community College defeating the Raiders in Mountain Valley Conference play by scores of: 25-30, 22-30, 30-16, 30-25 and 15-3. Over the weekend the Orange & Black placed third at their own 2007 SUNY Cobleskill Invitational: defeating Adirondack Community College 30-18 and 30-21, beating Holyoke Community College 30-23 and 30-14 and stopping SUNY Delhi by scores of 30-24 and 30-21. Cobleskill lost in the tournament’s semifinals to Monroe Community College by scores 30-28, 30-32 and 9-15. Freshman outside hitter Danielle Skene, West Babylon, NY, West Babylon High School, earned All-Tournament Team honors for Cobleskill contributing 28 kills and 13 digs on the weekend. Cobleskill currently boasts a season record 9-4 on the year..
Freshman midfielder Dana Hamm, Middleburgh, NY, Middleburgh High School, scored five goals during the week to help the Cobleskill women’s soccer team post victories over visiting Columbia-Greene Community College on Tuesday 9-0 in Mountain Valley Conference play, tallying three times in the game, and then scoring both goals in the team’s 2-1 victory over Holyoke Community College on Thursday. The Fighting Tigers are currently 2-5 overall on the season with a 1-3 mark versus league opponents.
The Fighting Tiger women’s tennis team dropped a pair of Mountain Valley Conference decisions during the week losing to visiting Herkimer Community College 8-1 on Monday then falling to visiting Hudson Valley Community College 8-1 on Wednesday. Freshman Amy Cunningham, Cairo, NY, Cairo-Durham High School, posted a win at the number five singles spot versus Herkimer winning by scores of 7-6, 2-6 and 6-4.
