FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 4/16/07
Freshman Regina Morgan, Brooklyn, NY, Prospect Heights High School, qualified for the 2007 NJCAA Division III Women’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Saturday at the J. Elmer Swanson Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. Morgan met the national qualifying standard in the 200 Meters placing fifth in a time of 28.24 seconds then met the national qualifying mark in the 400 Meters placing fifth with a time of 1:05.38 while also running a leg on the Fighting Tigers’ national qualifying 4 X 400 Meter Relay that placed third overall in the meet, meeting the qualifying standard with a time of 4:23.81.
Senior NJCAA All-American distance runner Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School,
qualified for the 2007 NJCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Saturday at the J. Elmer Swanson Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. Levens met the national qualifying mark at 5000 Meters placing second overall in the event with a time of 16:15.94.
The Fighting Tiger men’s tennis team evened their season record at 2-2 on Wednesday by defeating visiting Adirondack Community College in a Mountain Valley Conference match by a 9-0 margin. Senior Steve Weiss, Getzville, NY, Williamsville North High School, captured the first singles slot by scores of 6-0 and 6-0 then teamed with senior Andy Steiner, Perry, NY, Perry High School, to win at first doubles by scores of 6-3 and 6-0.
The Cobleskill golf team posted a team score of 337 to place sixth at the Broome Community College Invitational hosted at the Endwell Greens Golf Club in Endwell, NY on Saturday. Freshman Andy Kincaid, Horseheads, NY, Horseheads High School, was top man for the Fighting Tigers tying for fifth place with a round of 77.
The Fighting Tiger men’s baseball team split a Mountain Valley Conference doubleheader at Fulton-Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, NY on Tuesday dropping the first game by a score of 12-7 then taking the second game by a 10-0 score. Cobleskill proceeded to drop a league doubleheader on Wednesday at Adirondack Community College in Glens Falls, NY by scores of 11-2 and 8-3. Senior second baseman Brett Wrixon, Kingston, NY, Kingston High School, was a perfect 6-for-6 versus Fulton-Montgomery including a triple, three RBI and a pair of runs scored. The Fighting Tigers are currently 4-16 on the year with a 1-3 mark in league play.
The Cobleskill lacrosse team dropped a pair of decisions during the week losing to visiting Hudson Valley Community College Mountain Valley Conference play on Tuesday 16-4 then traveling to Syracuse, NY to fall to Cayuga Community College by a 16-8 margin. Freshman attackman Matt Hughes, Wallkill, NY, Wallkill High School, posted three goals and two assists versus Cayuga in his first game back from the disabled list. The Fighting Tigers are currently 1-5 on the year with a 0-2 mark in MVC play.
The Fighting Tiger softball team opened the season by dropping a pair of doubleheaders losing to visiting Columbia-Greene Community College in Mountain Valley Conference action on Tuesday by scores of 11-2 and 15-3 then falling to Broome Community College in Binghamton, NY by scores of 8-0 and 14-0. Freshman Anastasia Yakaboski, Calverton, NY, Riverhead High School, went 5-for-5 versus Columbia-Greene for the Fighting Tigers.
