FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 4/23/07
Freshman multi-event athlete Jennifer Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, led the Fighting Tiger women’s track & field team over the weekend at the East Stroudsburg State University Hall-of-Fame Meet in East Stroudsburg, PA. Villanova placed second in the Long Jump meeting the NJCAA National Championship qualifying standard with a program record mark of 17’1/4”. The talented freshman also met the national qualifying mark in the Triple Jump with an effort of 32’2”.
The Fighting Tiger men’s baseball team took three-of-four games over the weekend splitting a pair doubleheader versus visiting Mountain Valley Conference rival Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday falling in the first game by a score of 4-3 then taking the second game by a 6-4 margin. On Sunday the team traveled to Plattsburg, NY to sweep Clinton Community College by scores of 13-5 and 10-0. Freshman infielder Nick Poleto, Colonie, NY, Colonie High School, provided the fire power in the opening win going 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBI in the contest. Cobleskill is currently 7-16 overall with a 2-4 record in Mountain Valley Conference action.
Senior distance runner Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, broke the Cobleskill men’s track & field team’s record in the 3000 Meters at the East Stroudsburg State University Hall-of-Fame Meet in East Stroudsburg, PA on Saturday. Levens placed seventh in the event with a program record time of 9:27.23.
The Cobleskill lacrosse team dropped a 7-6 road decision to Alfred State College on Sunday in Alfred, NY to fall to 1-6 overall on the season. Freshman Andrew Abbott, Onondaga, NY, Onondaga High School, scored a pair of goals for the Fighting Tigers in a losing effort.
The Fighting Tiger softball program won two of eight games during the week dropping a Mountain Valley Conference doubleheader to host Hudson Valley Community College 13-0 and 22-2 on Monday, splitting with visiting league rival Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Wednesday losing 5-2 before winning 11-4, dropping a doubleheader to visiting Dean College on Saturday 21-11 and 4-3 before splitting with visiting Clinton Community College by winning 12-9 before falling 17-8 in the nightcap on Sunday. Freshman pitcher/outfielder Anastasia Yakaboski, Calverton, NY, Riverhead High School, notched both wins for the Cobleskill on the mound while going 13-for-28 at the plate with nine runs scored and four RBI.
The Cobleskill golf team completed their annual swing through western New York over the weekend placing tied for sixth at the 2007 Jaguar Invitational hosted by Jamestown-Olean Community College on Friday with a score of 347 then finishing fourth at the 2007 Jayhawk Invitational hosted by Jamestown Community College on Sunday with a score of 323. Senior Joe Winski, Youngsville, NY, Sullivan West High School, paced the team shooting an 83 at the Jaguar Invitational the posting a score of 80 at the Jayhawk Invitational.
