FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 4/30/07
The Fighting Tiger men’s lacrosse team won three of four contests last week to close the season with a 4-7 overall record their best finish since 1994. Cobleskill defeated visiting Finger Lakes Community College 15-13 on Wednesday, beat visiting Mountain Valley Conference rival Mohawk Valley Community College 16-8 on Thursday, dropped a 13-10 league road decision to SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY on Saturday then closed the season with a 17-5 road win over Dean College in Franklin, NY on Sunday. Senior midfielder Tom Cunningham, Skaneateles, NY, Skaneateles High School, scored 14 goals and passed out 12 assists during the week’s action for Cobleskill.
Freshman multi-event athlete Jennifer Villanova, Clifton Park, NY, Shenendehowa High School, led the Fighting Tiger women’s track & field team to a second place finish with a score of 155 points at the 2007 Mountain Valley Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Saturday. Villanova won conference championships in the Pole Vault with an effort of 2.12 meters and the Long Jump with a mark of 4.67 meters to earn all-conference honors. Overall the Fighting Tigers had 12 selections to the 2007 All-Mountain Valley Conference Team at the championships.
The Cobleskill men’s track & field team posted a team score of 125 points to place third at the
2007 Mountain Valley Conference Outdoor Championships hosted by Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Saturday. Senior Brandon Gillis, Hudson, NY, Hudson High School, earned All-Mountain Valley Conference Team honors by winning the 10,000 Meters with a time of 36:35.4. Overall the Fighting Tigers had four selections to the 2007 All-Mountain Valley Conference Team at the championships.
The Fighting Tiger men’s tennis team recorded their best finish at the 2007 NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Tournament in nearly two decades finishing third overall with a team score of 10 points. Senior Andy Steiner, Perry, NY, Perry High School, lost in the regional championship match at number two singles by scores of 2-6, 6-3, 4-6 for the Fighting Tigers.
The Fighting Tiger women’s softball team dropped a Mountain Valley Conference doubleheader on Friday at Herkimer Community College in Herkimer, NY by scores of 4-2 and 10-1 then took to the road to sweep conference rival SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY by scores of 9-5 and 11-2 on Saturday. Freshman pitcher Anastasia Yakaboski, Calverton, NY, Riverhead High School, recorded both victories on Saturday for Cobleskill while going 5-for-7 at the plate with an RBI and four run scored.
The Cobleskill men’s golf team shot a team score of 328 on Saturday to place fourth among regional junior colleges at the 2007 SUNY Delhi Invitational on Saturday at the Delhi Golf & Country in Delhi, NY then placed fourth on Sunday at their own SUNY Cobleskill Invitational hosted at the Cobleskill Golf & Country Club. Freshman Andy Kincaid, Horseheads, NY, Horseheads High School, fired the team’s best round of the weekend on Sunday shooting a 77 at the Cobleskill Invitational.
