FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 3/10/08
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team will open the 2008 NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament on Thursday March 13th at SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY versus Middlesex Community College (27-3) in the quarterfinal round beginning at 8:00 PM. The Fighting Tiger baseball team opened the 2008 season with an upset victory over the nation’s number thirteen ranked team and defending Region XIII Champion Itasca Community College from Grand Rapids, MN in the first game of a doubleheader by a 5-3 score on Sunday. Freshman hurler Tom Wiener, Montrose, NY, Hendrick Hudson High School, went the distance for the Cobleskill striking out nine batters and limiting Itasca to only three hits in the game. The Fighting Tigers are currently 1-1 on the season.
SUNY Cobleskill senior Megan Holstead, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, earned a pair of NJCAA Coaches Association All-American honors for the Fighting Tigers at the 2008 NJCAA National Swimming & Diving Championships hosted by Indian River Community College in Fort Pierce, FL over the weekend. Holstead led the Fighting Tigers to a thirteenth place finish at the event by placing twelfth in the 1650 Meter Freestyle in a time of 22:42.59 and twelfth in the 100 Meter Breaststroke in a time of 1:28.82.
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s indoor track & field program placed twenty-eighth in a field of 44 teams at the 2008 NJCAA Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Eastern Illinois University at the university’s Lantz Indoor Fieldhouse in Charleston, IL over the weekend. The highlight of the meet for the Fighting Tigers was the Distance Medley Relay Team of senior Eric Graber, Troy, NY, Lansingburgh High School, freshman Richard Garnett, Yonkers, NY, Roosevelt High School, senior Carlton Wildman, Huntington, NY, John Glenn High School, and freshman Emille Barnett, Huntington, NY, John Glenn High School, which placed eighth overall establishing a new program record in the event with a time of 10:36.22 to score at the national meet in the DMR for the first time in school history.
