FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 4/7/08
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s outdoor track & field team posted eight individual and one relay NJCAA Division III National Championship Qualifying performances at the 2008 Muhlenberg College hosted by Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA on Saturday. Freshman hurdler Jon Figueroa, North Branch, NY, Sullivan West High School, posted a pair of national qualifying performances finishing sixth in the 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 16.66 seconds While placing seventh in the 400 Meter Hurdles with in a time of 59.23 seconds. Cobleskill is currently ranked second in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Senior NJCAA All-American distance runner April Ackermann, South Huntington, NY, Sullivan West High School, posted a pair of NJCAA Division III National Championship performances at the 2008 Muhlenberg College hosted by Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA on Saturday. Ackermann finished second in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase in a national qualifying time of 12:22.50 and also qualified in the 800 Meters with a time of 2:38.03. The Fighting Tigers had six individual and two relay national qualifying performances on the day and are currently ranked first in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger men’s tennis team opened the season by defeating visiting NJCAA Region XXI power Holyoke Community College by a 6-3 margin on Monday afternoon at the Cobleskill Tennis Complex then taking to the road on Tuesday to open the 2008 Mountain Valley Conference season with a win over league rival SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY by an identical 6-3 score. Senior co-captain Greg Klopfer, Voorheesville, NY, Voorheesville High School, paced the Cobleskill attack winning a pair of singles matches at the number three singles slot for the Fighting Tigers and teaming with freshman Zak Kraehmer, Wallkill, NY, Wallkill High School, for a pair of victories at the number two doubles position. Cobleskill is currently 2-0 overall on the season with a 1-0 mark versus league completion.
Freshman hurler Tom Weiner, Montrose, NY, Hendrick Hudson High School, shutout Mountain Valley Conference rival Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Thursday in the baseball team’s home opener by a score of 6-0. Weiner improved his record to 2-1 on the year and posting his first collegiate career shutout by going the distance striking out six while walking only two. Cobleskill dropped the nightcap to the Raiders by a 7-0 margin giving the Fighting Tigers a 6-5 overall record on the year to date with a 1-1 record versus conference competition.
The Cobleskill men’s lacrosse program dropped a 10-9 decision on Saturday to visiting Broome Community College Hornets the number tenth ranked team in the NJCAA Division III National Poll. Senior attackman Matt Hughes, Wallkill, NY, Wallkill High School, tallied three goals on the afternoon for the Orange & Black who fall to 2-4 overall on the season to date.
