FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 4/10/06
The Fighting Tiger men’s baseball program swept all three of their contest during the week opening the Mountain Valley Conference season by defeating visiting Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Thursday by scores of 6-2 and 10-0 then taking to the road to defeat the RPI Junior Varsity in Troy, NY by a 15-5 margin on Saturday. Senior Matt Young, Delmar, NY, Bethlehem High School, pitched a one-hit shutout versus FMCC and was an impressive 8-for-12 at the plate with seven RBI, six runs scored and two stolen bases in the victories. Cobleskill is 5-11 on the season with a perfect 2-0 record in Mountain Valley Conference play.
The Cobleskill men’s tennis team took two of three matches during the week defeating visiting Holyoke Community College on Monday by a 5-4 score, beating Mountain Valley Conference rival Delhi Tech in Delhi, NY on Wednesday by a 6-3 score then dropping an 8-1 decision to visiting Suffolk Community College on Saturday. Senior number three singles Derek Norberg, Middleburgh, NY, Middleburgh High School, won all three of his singles matches for the Fighting Tigers who are currently 2-2 on the season with a 1-0 record in conference play.
Fighting Tiger freshman middle distance runner Theresa Cox, Bellport, NY, Bellport, NY, Bellport High School, qualified for the 2006 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 400 Meter Dash on Saturday at the Williams College Relays hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, MA. Cox placed 13th overall in the event in a time of 1:06.81 to meet the national qualifying mark.
Freshman thrower Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, qualified for the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday in the Hammer Throw at the Williams College Relays hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, MA. Robinson placed 13th overall in the event with a toss of 34.90 meters.
