FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 4/16/06
The Fighting Tiger men’s baseball team moved into first place in the Mountain Valley Conference sweeping visiting Adirondack Community College on Wednesday by scores of 7-3 and 15-5 then traveling to Troy, NY on Friday and taking a doubleheader from Hudson Valley Community College by scores of 4-2 and 6-5 to move their season record to 9-11 on the year with a 6-0 mark in league play. Senior pitcher/first baseman Matt Young, Delmar, NY, Bethlehem High School, went 9-for-14 with six runs scored and five RBI in the victories at the plate and went the distance in the second victory over Hudson Valley striking out eight against the Vikings.
Senior Dee Dee Smith, Monticello, NY, Redemption Christian Academy, has been named to the 2006 Honorable Mention NJCAA Division III Women’s Basketball All-American Team. Smith led the Fighting Tigers to the best season in program history with a 24-5 overall record averaging 14.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.7 steals and 0.9 blocked shots per contest. Smith was also selected as a NJCAA All-American in 2005.
The Fighting Tiger men’s track and field team captured the 1600 Meter Relay at the 2006 J. Elmer Swanson Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT on Saturday. The team of freshman Matt Czajkowski, Duanesburg, NY, Duanesburg High School, freshman Chris Dietl, Norwalk, CT, Norwalk High School, freshman Matt McCann, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, and freshman John Bates, Walton, NY, Walton High School, posted a winning time of 3:30.42 to meet the NJCAA National Qualifying Standard.
Freshman sprinter Erinn O’Rourke, South Glens Falls, NY, South Glens Falls High School, qualified for the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the 100 Meter Dash, 13.57 seconds, and the 200 Meter Dash, 28.03 seconds, at the 2006 J. Elmer Swanson Invitational hosted by Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT on Saturday.
The Cobleskill men’s tennis team posted a pair of home victories upsetting Region III power Onondaga Community College by a 5-4 margin on Tuesday then topping Delhi Tech by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday. Freshman number five singles Dan Hooker, Cicero, NY, Cicero-North Syracuse High School, posted a pair of three set wins in the victories for the Fighting Tigers.
Freshman Jordan Brown, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, fired a round of 85 to lead the Fighting Tiger golf team to a second place finish at the Columbia-Greene Community College Invitational on Thursday. The Fighting Tigers posted a team score of 354 to place second in the tournament.
The Fighting Tiger women’s softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Broome Community College by scores of 19-1 and 11-1 to fall to 2-2 on the season. Senior shortstop Tahara Pleasure, Albany, NY, Albany High School, went 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Fighting Tigers in the nightcap.
