FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 4/24/06
The Cobleskill men’s tennis team posted home victories over Mohawk Valley Community College, 7-2, on Wednesday and over defending NJCAA Region III Champion Broome Community College, 5-4, on Saturday to push their season record to 6-2 on the year. Freshman second singles Andy Steiner, Perry, NY, Perry High School, posted a pair of victories in his singles matches to lead the Fighting Tigers.
Freshman sprinter Matt Czajkowski, Duanesburg, NY, Duanesburg High School, qualified for the 2006 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Men’s Track & Field Championships on Wednesday at the Delhi Tech Mid-Week Qualifying Meet hosted by Delhi Tech in Delhi, NY in the 400 Meter Dash. Czajkowski placed second in the event meeting the national qualifying standard with a time of 52.1 seconds.
The Fighting Tiger men’s baseball team spit a doubleheader with Schenectady Community College on Tuesday dropping the first game 5-2 then rallying in their last at-bat to win the nightcap by a 6-5 margin. Cobleskill then took to the road on Wednesday to beat Columbia-Greene Community College 10-7 before returning home on Thursday to drop a doubleheader to Herkimer Community College by scores of 15-2 and 9-3. Freshman outfielder Ryan Rockefeller, Bolivar, NY, Bolivar-Richburg High School, was the hero in the second game victory over Schenectady doubling home a pair of runs with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the victory.
The Cobleskill women’s softball team dropped a pair of Mountain Valley Conference doubleheaders losing to visiting Hudson Valley Community College on Monday, 6-0 and 18-1, then taking to the road to lose at Fulton-Montgomery in Johnstown, NY on Thursday, 9-0 and 12-4. Senior Tahara Pleasure, Albany, NY, Albany High School, belted a two-run homer versus Fulton-Montgomery for the Fighting Tigers. Pleasure is hitting .353, 6-for-17, with six RBI on the season for the Fighting Tiger who are currently 3-7 on the year with a 2-4 mark in league play.
Freshman Jordan Brown, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, posted the SUNY Cobleskill golf program’s best individual round of the year at the Mercyhurst Northeast Invitational hosted by the Peek-n-Peek Golf Club on Saturday as the talented rookie led the Fighting Tigers with a score of 79.
