FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 5/8/06
The SUNY Cobleskill baseball program took three of four contests over the weekend to tie the program record for most wins in a single season and earn their first NJCAA Region III Play-off bid since 1995. The Fighting Tigers split a pair of Mountain Valley Conference contests with Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Friday evening winning the first game 5-2 then dropping the nightcap 4-3. On Saturday, Cobleskill swept Clinton Community College by scores of 12-0 and 7-2 to close the season with an 18-16 overall record with a program best 15-5 NJCAA Region III Division III record and a program best 12-4 conference record. Freshman outfielder Adam Cernauskus, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, had a big weekend for the Fighting Tigers going 6-for-13 with four RBI including a three-run home run in the first game of the Clinton Community College doubleheader.
The Fighting Tiger men’s golf team captured their seventh consecutive Mountain Valley Conference Championship on Friday at the Cobleskill Golf & Country Club posting a team score of 334 to better the field of four teams. Freshman Joe Winski, Youngsville, NY, Sullivan West High School, captured the conference’s individual championship posting a round of 80 to earn medalist honors for Cobleskill while freshman Josh Gangaware, Lake Luzerne, NY, Hadley-Luzerne High School, and senior Darren Clarke, Campbell, NY, Campbell-Savona High School, also earned all-conference honors placing third and fifth respectively with rounds of 83 and 85.
Freshman thrower Beth Conte, Herkimer, NY, Herkimer High School, placed third in the Hammer Throw at the 2006 NJCAA Region III Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Delhi, NY on Saturday meeting the NJCAA National Qualifying Standard in the event with a toss of 30.17 meters. The Fighting Tigers posted a team score of 60 points to bring home a fifth place finish from the meet.
The Cobleskill men’s outdoor track & field team posted a team score of 28 points to place seventh at the 2006 NJCAA Region III Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Delhi, NY on Saturday. Freshman thrower Kyle Robinson, Canastota, NY, Canastota High School, placed second for the Fighting Tigers in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 39.28 meters to meet the NJCAA National Qualifying Standard.
The women’s softball team closed the season dropping doubleheaders to Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY on Tuesday by scores of 11-0 and 10-1, to Columbia-Greene Community College on Thursday in Hudson, NY, by scores of 10-1 and 14-5 and versus Morrisville State College at home on Friday by margins of 15-2 and 12-5. The Fighting Tigers close out the season with a 5-15 overall record including a 4-12 mark in league play. Freshman center fielder Crystal Quell, Schuylerville, NY, Schuylerville High School, went 9-for-21 with seven runs scored and two RBI for the Fighting Tigers.
Fighting Tiger Head Men’s Tennis Coach Scott Hill was named the 2006 Mountain Valley Conference Coach-of-the-Year after leading the Fighting Tigers their first league title in 23 years of league affiliation. Cobleskill closed the season with a 7-2 overall record including a perfect 4-0 record against conference opponents. |
