FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 9/18/06
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s soccer program celebrated their return to the NJCAA Division III National Rankings in style defeating visitors SUNY Delhi 5-1 on Monday then taking down Hudson Valley Community College 3-0 on Wednesday at the Cobleskill Soccer Complex. Senior midfielder Gilbert Francillon, Brooklyn, NY, Midwood High School, had a goal and an assist in each of the Fighting Tiger victories. Cobleskill is currently ranked nineteenth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll with a 4-1 overall record including a 2-1 mark versus league opponents.
Freshman April Ackermann, Cochecton, NY, Sullivan West High School, won her third consecutive women’s cross country individual invitational title of the season winning the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Alfred State College on Saturday covering the 5000 meter mountain course in a time of 21:06. Led by Ackermann the Fighting Tigers placed second overall in the five team field with a score of 46 points. Cobleskill is currently ranked second in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger women’s volleyball team placed second at the Raider Invitational hosted by Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Saturday in Johnstown, NY. The Fighting Tigers defeated Adirondack Community College, 34-32 and 30-20, and Broome Community College, 30-18 and 30-28, in pool play losing only to Division II Genesee Community College, 30-20 and 30-27. Cobleskill beat host Fulton-Montgomery Community College in the semifinals, 30-22 and 30-19, before losing to Genesee in the finals by scores of 30-14 and 30-17. Freshman setter Krista Cohn, Binghamton, NY, Windsor High School, was named to the All-Tournament Team after quarterbacking the Fighting Tiger attack with 92 assists in the tourney. Cobleskill is currently ranked sixteenth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll with a 7-4 overall record including a 1-0 Mountain Valley Conference mark.
Senior NJCAA All-American Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin, High School, led the Cobleskill men’s cross country team to a fourth place finish in a field of seven teams at the Pioneer Invitational hosted by Alfred State College on Saturday. Levens won his second invitational title of the season covering the 8000 meter mountain course in a time of 29:57. Cobleskill is currently ranked eighth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger women’s soccer program dropped a pair of road contests this week losing to Mountain Valley Conference opponents SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY on Wednesday 2-0 and to Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY on Saturday by a 4-1 margin. Freshman forward Any Bower, Jefferson, NY, Jefferson High School, scored the Fighting Tigers’ lone goal of the week versus Hudson Valley. Cobleskill is currently 0-3 overall on the season with an identical 0-3 record in conference play.
