FIGHTING TIGER WEEKLY RECAP 9/25/06
The Fighting Tiger men’s soccer team pushed their overall record to 6-1 on the season this week traveling to Johnstown, NY on Wednesday to Fulton-Montgomery Community College and defeating the Raiders by a 3-0 margin then blasting visiting Word of Life Bible Institute on Saturday by an 11-1 score. Freshman forward Travis Thrush, Middleburgh, NY, Middleburgh High School, had three goals in the victory over Word of Life on Saturday for Cobleskill. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked eighteenth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tiger women’s cross country team posted a team score of 103 points to claim a second place overall finish in a field of fourteen teams at the 2006 “Raptor Invitational” hosted by Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY on Saturday. Cobleskill won the Junior College/Community College Division Championship led by freshman Sarah Furman, West Berne, NY, Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, who placed fourth in the event covering the 6000 Meter course in a time of 26:14. The Fighting Tigers are currently tied for first in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Cobleskill men’s cross country team posted a team total of 103 points to place third in a field of twelve teams at the 2006 “Raptor Invitational” hosted by Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY on Saturday. Cobleskill won the Junior College/Community College Division III Championship paced by senior NJCAA All-American Creig Levens, Berlin, NY, Berlin High School, who placed second overall covering the 8000 Meter course in a time of 28:45. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked seventh in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Senior middle hitter Amanda Carfora, Wallkill, NY, Wallkill High School, was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2006 SUNY Cobleskill Invitational Volleyball Tournament hosted by the Fighting Tigers in Cobleskill, NY on Saturday. Cobleskill defeated: Delhi Tech 30-12 & 30-12, Holyoke Community College 30-11 & 30-12 and Adirondack Community College 30-17 & 30-17 in pool play before losing to Monroe Community College in the tournament’s semifinals 30-23, 23-30 and 11-15. The Fighting Tigers posted a road victory over Herkimer Community College 30-20, 30-17 & 30-16 in Mountain Valley Conference action on Thursday. The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked sixteenth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll with an 11-5 overall record including a perfect 2-0 mark in conference play.
The Cobleskill women’s soccer team dropped a pair of matches during the week falling by 2-0 margin to Mountain Valley Conference rival Columbia-Greene Community College on Wednesday in Hudson, NY then losing to Clinton Community College at home on Saturday by a 3-1 score. Freshman forward Amy Bower, Jefferson, NY, Jefferson High School, scored the Fighting Tigers goal versus Clinton. Cobleskill is currently 0-5 on the season with a 0-4 record in MVC play.
