FIGHTING TIGERS LEAVE CGCC TWINS SEEING DOUBLE WITH 67-43 MVC WIN
With the Thanksgiving holiday looming the SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team traveled to Hudson, NY on Tuesday for their second Mountain Valley Conference contest of the season paying a pre-holiday visit to the Twins of Columbia-Greene Community College. The Fighting Tigers looked anxious to get the break underway jumping out to a 34-11 first half lead which led to a 67-43 victory margin pushing the team’s overall record to 5-2 on the year with a perfect 2-0 mark in MVC play.
Freshman guard Darryl Burns Jr., Brooklyn, NY, Art & Design High School, led an extremely balanced Cobleskill attack with 13 points and four rebounds as 13 of 17 Fighting Tigers who played in the game found the scoring column. Freshman forward Anthony Armstead, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, had eight points to go with two rebounds, two steals and two assists while freshman forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, chipped in six points to go with seven rebounds on the night.
Also contributing in the victory were senior swingman Devon Moore, Brooklyn, NY, Family Academy High School, with six points, five rebounds and two assists, freshman center/forward Vladimir Colas, Warwick, NY, Warwick High School, with four points and a career high nine rebounds, and freshman guard Jason Taylor, Deer Park, NY, Ossining High School, with five points and three assists. Freshman point guard Joe McCarthy, Warwick, NY, Warwick High School, added six points as did freshman center Jude Franck, Spring Valley, NY, Ramapo High School, who posted a six point/three rebound outing.
“We established ourselves defensively in the first half and basically never looked back,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “This was a good way for us to go into the break getting a win and having the opportunity to play a lot of people. We have a tough week coming up after Thanksgiving with Broome on Tuesday night and Hudson Valley on Friday night but the good thing is we’ll be at home and should have great crowd support.”
The Fighting Tigers will return to the court on Tuesday November 28th when they host the Hornets of Broome Community College at 7:00 PM. The game will be the second game of a men’s/women’s doubleheader with the Fighting Tiger women’s team hosting the Lady Hornets at 5:00 PM. Admission to all Fighting Tiger regular season home contests is free to the public.
