FIGHTING TIGER HOOPSTERS DEFEAT CLINTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE 73-63
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team used the free throw line to their advantage in posting a 73-63 victory over Clinton Community College pushing their season record to a perfect 4-0 on the year. The Fighting Tigers, who are currently ranked twelfth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll, converted on 31 of 39 attempts in the hard hitting contest to secure the victory.
“They decided to attempt to be physical with us and ended up fouling a lot,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “The key points today were that we maintained our defensive intensity and converted on free throws to win by a comfortable margin even though we didn’t shoot the ball particularly well from the field.”
The Cobleskill senior class provided the leadership to deliver the win as senior guard Darryl Burns Jr., Brooklyn, NY, Art & Design High School, scored a career high of 20 points and grabbed four rebounds, senior power forward Anthony Armstead, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, scored 15 points and senior point guard Harley Fuller, Gloversville, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, added 11 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals on the evening. Senior forward Stanley Francois, Suffern, NY, Suffern High School, also had three points and 10 rebounds on the night.
The Orange & Black also received important contributions from freshman center Kareem Corprew, Brooklyn, NY, Grand Street High School, with four points and nine rebounds, freshman guard Matt Williams, Mt. Kisco, NY, Fox Lane High School, who scored seven points and freshman guard De’Von Beaufort, Peekskill, NY, Peekskill High School, who also scored seven points on the night.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Tuesday November 13th when they travel to Schenectady, NY to open Mountain Valley Conference play versus the Royals of Schenectady Community College at the Schenectady Armory with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 PM.
TIGER NOTES: The 31 for 39 effort, 79.5%, from the free throw line was the most attempted and made by the Fighting Tigers since January 12th of 2005 when Cobleskill connected on 27 of 38 attempts, 71.1%, versus Corning Community College in a 77-72 home victory. Cobleskill did an excellent job of protecting the ball versus the aggressive Cougar defense committing only two turnovers on the evening. |
