FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S CAGERS TAME ACC TIMBERWOLVES 83-48
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team returned to the friendly confines of the Iorio Gymnasium last night to break a two-game losing streak easily handling the visiting Timberwolves of Adirondack Community College by an 83-48 margin in Mountain Valley Conference play. The victory pushes the Fighting Tigers overall record to 8-2 on the year with a 3-1 mark versus league competition.
“We did some things better tonight but we still need to improve at certain things if we are going to be serious contenders this season,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “This was an important win from the standpoint that we needed to get back on the winning track and that we were able to play a lot of people and evaluate how they are progressing. Believe me when I say that we are still a work in progress as a team at this point of the season.”
Senior point guard Harley Fuller, Gloversville, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, led a balanced Fighting Tiger attack with an eight point, 10 assist, and eight rebound performance that saw senior forward Stanley Francois, Suffern, NY, Suffern High School, score 12 points, grab five rebounds and pick up three steal, freshman center Kareem Corprew, Brooklyn, NY, Grand Street High School, score 10 points to go with three rebounds and freshman guard Nyquan Bellamy, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, score 12 points on the evening.
Cobleskill also received solid contributions from senior guard Darryl Burns Jr., Brooklyn, NY, High School of Art & Design, who scored eight points, passed out five assists and grabbed four rebounds and freshman center Victor Ljuljojuraj, Yorktown Heights, NY, Lakeland High School, who scored six points and grabbed three rebounds. Freshman guard Matt Williams, Mt. Kisco, NY, Fox Lane High School, also chipped in nine points for Cobleskill.
The Fighting Tigers will return to the court on Friday December 7th when they host the Ithaca College Junior Varsity at 7:00 PM.
TIGER NOTES: Former Fighting Tiger standout Jamael Lynch, Brooklyn, NY, is currently starting for NCAA Division II member institution University of Massachusetts at Lowell while Devon Moore, Brooklyn, NY has been starting at NCAA Division III member SUNY Utica/Rome. The Fighting Tigers posted one of their best shooting nights of the season connecting of 31 of 51 shot attempts for an average of 60.8%. On defense the Orange & Black held the Timberwolves to 15 of 50 from the field for an impressive 30.0% mark on the evening.
