FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S CAGERS SHOOT DOWN ITHACA BOMBER 100-73
Using a combination of superior speed, maneuverability and firepower the SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team shot down the visiting Bombers of the Ithaca College Junior Varsity by a 100-73 margin at the Iorio Gymnasium on Friday evening. The victory moves the Fighting Tigers’ overall record to 9-2 on the season.
“Tonight one of our priorities was to enter the ball inside to our post players and let them work on the defense,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “I think that we were very successful in accomplishing this and I also thought that overall we did a good job of passing tonight which led to a number of fastbreak opportunities. There are still areas that we need to improve at but I think we are starting to move in the right direction.”
Senior forward Stanley Francois, Suffern, NY, Suffern High School, led the Cobleskill attack scoring a season high of 23 points to go with seven rebounds while senior power forward Anthony Armstead, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, joined Francois in controlling the paint with 13 points and six rebounds on the night. The Fighting Tigers also received double figure scoring efforts from freshman guard Nyquan Bellamy, Poughkeepsie, NY, Poughkeepsie High School, who tossed in 18 points and passed out three assists and from freshman guard Matt Williams, Mt. Kisco, NY, Fox Lane High School, who scored 13 points on the evening.
The Orange & Black also received another strong showing from senior point guard Harley Fuller, Gloversville, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, who scored nine points, passed out 12 assists and grabbed five rebounds on the evening and from freshman center Victor Ljuljojuraj, Yorktown Heights, NY, Fox Lane High School, who scored eight points to go with a career high of 11 rebounds.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action when on Tuesday December 11th when they travel to Holyoke, MA to meet the Cougars of Holyoke Community College for an NJCAA inter-regional contest beginning at 7:00 PM.
TIGER NOTES: The Fighting Tigers 100 point effort was the first time this season the team as met the century mark and the first time since February 3rd of 2007 when they defeated Schenectady Community College by a 100-49 margin. Cobleskill converted on 42-of-68 field goal opportunities for a season best 61.8% mark from the floor. Of the team’s 42 made field goal, 30 came by virtue of assists. The Fighting Tigers recorded a season high of 19 steals in the contest while forcing 29 Bomber turnovers on the evening. Once again Cobleskill showed its overall depth as 13 different players found their way to the scoring column in the contest.
