FIGHTING TIGER MEN HIT CENTURY MARK TO DEFEAT SCC 100-49
During SUNY Cobleskill Head Men’s Basketball Coach Kevin McCarthy’s tenure at the college the Fighting Tigers have never lost a game in which they have held the opposition to under 50 points and have never lost a game in which the Orange & Black have scored 100 points. On Saturday visiting Schenectady Community College kept both of those streaks in tact as the Fighting Tiger posted a 100-49 Mountain Valley Conference win over Royals. Cobleskill is currently ranked seventh in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll with a 17-4 overall on the season including an 8-2 record in league play.
“I think the fans enjoyed the final score but I enjoyed the fact that we played very hard, defended well and shared the basketball,” said McCarthy. “We’ve got some very important games coming up in the near future so we’ve got to use opportunities like today to work on things that are going to translate into success down the stretch. It was good to have an easy one for a change and now we’ll go back to work and start getting ready for Mohawk Valley on Tuesday night.”
Freshman center Jude Franck, Spring Valley, NY, Ramapo High School, scored a career high 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked five shots on the afternoon tying for high scoring honors with freshman guard Jayson Taylor, Deer Park, NY, Ossining High School, who tallied 22 points and passed out five assists in the victory. Cobleskill also received double digit scoring efforts from freshman center/forward Vladimir Colas, Warwick, NY, Warwick High School, who scored 15 points and snared 10 rebounds and from freshman forward Stanley Francois, Valley Cottage, NY, Suffern High School, with 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.
The Fighting Tigers continued to receive strong all-around play from senior swingman Devon Moore, Family Academy High School, who scored eight points, grabbed 10 rebounds, passed out four assists and made four steals and from freshman point guard Harley Fuller, Gloversville, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, who scored four points, passed out 10 assists and grabbed six rebounds. Off the bench, freshman forward Ryan Greene, Richmondville, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, scored five points, freshman point guard Devon Williams, Brooklyn, NY, Franklin K. Lane High School, also scored five points while freshman center Kyle Mitchell, Hadley, NY, Hadley-Luzerne High School, added six points and four rebounds.
Cobleskill will return to action on Tuesday February 6th when they host Mohawk Valley Community College from Utica, NY in a Mountain Valley Conference game at 8:00 PM. The Fighting Tiger women will open the evening at 6:00 PM versus Mohawk Valley’s women’s team. Admission to all Cobleskill regular season home games is free to the general public.
