COBLESKILL’S FULLER SIGNS WITH DIVISION I FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY
The SUNY Cobleskill Men’s Basketball program announced today that Fighting Tiger senior point guard Harley Fuller, Gloversville, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, has signed a national letter of intent to accept an athletic scholarship to play men’s basketball for NCAA Division I member Florida International University located in Miami, Florida. The Golden Panthers are a member of the Sun Belt Conference and under the direction of head Coach Sergio Roucco posted a 9-20 overall record during the 2007-08 season.
A two-year starter for the Fighting Tigers; Fuller was a two-time All-Mountain Valley Conference selection and a Third Team NJCAA All-Region III Division III Team honoree, during his time with the Orange & Black. With the Gloversville, NY native running the point, Cobleskill won the third NJCAA Region III Division III Championship in program history posting a 26-8 overall record on the season while advancing to the “Final Four” of the 2008 NJCAA Division III Championship Tournament. During Fuller’s freshman season Cobleskill finished with a 21-8 overall record.
This season the 6’1” point guard averaged 6.8 points, 8.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 46.3 % from the field including 38.2% from three-point range and 66.7% from the free throw line. For his career Fuller averaged 6.1 points, 7.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 42.5% from the field including 31.9% from three-point range while shooting 67.6% from the free throw line. He closed his career as the program’s career leader in assists with 434, assists per game at 7.1 per game and turnover-to-assist ratio in a career at 3.7 to 1 and for a single-season at 3.9 to 1 during 2007-08.
The late signing comes as no surprise to Fuller’s former head coach at SUNY Cobleskill Kevin McCarthy.
“Throughout the season it was fairly evident that Harley was a Division I caliber player. The only surprising thing to me was the fact that he did not garner more local interest among the scholarship granting institutions.”
Fuller had strong words of praise for his time with the Fighting Tigers speaking highly about his time with the program.
“It has always been my dream to play basketball at the Division I level and this is one of the reasons that I came to SUNY Cobleskill to play for Coach McCarthy. I know that being here under coach’s direction has led to this and I am grateful to him, our coaching staff, the Cobleskill community and our Fighting Tiger fans, who in my opinion, are among the best in the country.”
A Sports Management major at Cobleskill, Fuller plans to pursue his degree in Florida International’s Hotel Management program. |
