COBLESKILL MEN’S BASKETBALL DUO EARN ALL-REGION BASKETBALL HONORS
In recognition for outstanding play on the hardwood SUNY Cobleskill men’s basketball team members senior Chris Holmes, Onondaga, NY, Onondaga High School, and freshman Prince Jackson, Schenectady, NY, Schenectady High School, have been named to the NJCAA All-Region III Team by the region’s coaches. Earlier the Fighting Tiger tandem earned All-Mountain Valley Conference recognition from the league’s coaches.
“Chris and Prince were exceptional young men to work with this season and played a major role in our success,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Kevin McCarthy. “Chris is going to have an outstanding career at the next level and Prince will be a major contributor next season for our program. These young men are great reflections on our program and a credit to their families.”
Holmes a 6’0” combination guard earned Second Team All-Region III honors by averaging 12.5 points, 3.0 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game in twenty-five contests for the Fighting Tigers on the year. A deadly shooter, Holmes shot 46.0% from the floor connecting on 104 of 226 attempts including 34 of an 82 three-point attempts for a 41.5% mark. From the free throw line Holmes shot 76.9% making 70 of 91 attempts. He was also a Second Team All-Mountain Valley Conference selection.
Jackson a 6’5” swingman led the Fighting Tigers in scoring, steals and rebounding during the season averaging 15.1 points, 1.8 assists, 6.9 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game in 30 games to garner First Team All-Region III honors. From the field the Schenectady High School alumnus hit on 180 of 408 attempts for a 44.1% mark including 32 of 82 three-point attempts for a 39.0% average. Jackson also shot 64.2% from the charity stripe connecting on 61 of 95 attempts. He was also a First Team All-Mountain Valley Conference selection.
Behind the efforts of Holmes and Jackson the Fighting Tigers posted a 20-10 overall record including a 13-5 mark in league play marking the ninth consecutive season Cobleskill has won twenty-games or more and the eleventh strait year the program has qualified for the NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament.
During Head Coach Kevin McCarthy’s tenure, Fighting Tiger players have earned All-Region III recognition twenty-four times in eleven seasons.
