FIGHTING TIGER LINKSTERS COMPLETE WESTERN NEW YORK SWING
The SUNY Cobleskill golf team endured weekend of wind, rain, water and mud as the Fighting Tigers made their annual trek to western New York to compete in the Jamestown Olean-Community College Invitational on Friday, the Mercyhurst Northeast College Invitational on Saturday and the Jamestown Community College on Sunday.
The Fighting Tigers fired a team score of 339 on Friday at the Jamestown-Olean Invitational hosted at the Bartlett Country Club to finish sixth in the field of eight teams. Cobleskill came back on Saturday to fire a score of 330 to place seventh in the field of ten teams at the Mercyhurst Northeast Invitational hosted by the Peek-N-Peek Golf Club. The Fighting Tigers closed out the trip on Sunday by posting a score of 341 to finish ninth in a nine team field at the Jamestown Community College Invitational hosted by the Chautauqua Golf & Country Club.
Freshman Joe Winski, Lake Luzerne, NY, Hadley-Luzerne High School, posted rounds of 84 on Friday, 81 on Saturday and 82 on Sunday to lead Cobleskill while senior Darren Clark, Campbell, NY, Campbell-Savona High School, posted scores of 86, 83 and 81 for the Fighting Tigers respectively. Freshman Josh Gangawar, Lake Luzerne, NY, Hadley-Luzerne High School, battled the elements to fire rounds of 82, 87 and 90 on the weekend. The Cobleskill scoring was rounded out by freshman Jordan Brown, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, who posted scores of 87, 79 and 96 for the weekend. Brown’s round of 79 at the Mercyhurst Northeast Invitational was Cobleskill’s best individual round of the year.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action over the weekend traveling to the Kingswood Golf Club on Friday April 28th for the Adirondack Community College Invitational then hosting their own SUNY Cobleskill Invitational on Sunday April 30th which will also be the site of the Mountain Valley Conference Championship.
