FIGHTING TIGER GOLFERS CAPTURE 2004 MVC CHAMPIONSHIP
The SUNY Cobleskill golf team displayed their overall depth and excellent shot making ability on Friday as the Fighting Tigers posted a team total of 317 to win the 2004 Mountain Valley Conference Championship hosted by Adirondack Community College at the Kingswood Golf Club in Hudson Falls, NY. With their tournament victory the Fighting Tigers have now pushed their streak of consecutive Mountain Valley Conference titles to four.
Senior NJCAA All-American Todd Czepiel, Booneville, NY, Adirondack High School, earned all-conference honors for the second time in his career firing a score of 76 to place second overall. Czepiel was joined on the all-league team by freshman Shaun Marcellus, Hamilton, NY, Hamilton High School, who posted a score of 78 on the day to finish in fourth place.
The Fighting Tigers also received a strong showing from freshman Ryan Dwyer, Theresa, NY, Indian River High School, who posted a round of 80 for the tournament. The Cobleskill depth was also in full evidence as senior Seth Markley, Sauquoit, NY, Sauquoit High School, senior Steve Cole, Cobleskill, NY, Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, and freshman Dan Spano, Schenevus, NY, Schenevus High School, each shot a round of 83.
Fighting Tiger Head Coach Dr. Gerry Hisert was named Mountain Valley Conference Coach-of-the-Year for the seventh time in his 22 years at the helm of the Cobleskill Golf program. The Fighting Tigers have now captured seven league titles under coach Hisert’s direction and are the defending NJCAA Region III Champions.
The Fighting Tigers will follow-up their league crown on Saturday May 1st when they travel to Watertown, NY for the Jefferson Community College Invitational to be hosted by the Cannoneers at the Watertown Golf & Country Club.
