Head Coach

Fighting Tiger Head Golf Coach Dr. Gerry Hisert has long been considered the Dean of NJCAA Region III Golf Coaches entering his twenty-second season at the helm of the Fighting Tigers. Dr. Hisert was named the Region III Coach-of-the-Year in 1997 after his Fighting Tigers captured the Region III Championship a feat he duplicated during 2003. Under his direction Cobleskill have captured nine conference championships including an unprecedented string of six consecutive titles from 2001 through 2006.

Dr. Hisert has been affiliated with SUNY Cobleskill for the past six decades as a student/athlete, faculty member and coach. A 1956 graduate of the college, Hisert was stellar performer in cross country earning NJCAA All-American honors in 1953 while also anchoring the Cobleskill backcourt in basketball scoring 592 points in his playing career. However it was on the baseball field where he would have his greatest success pitching professionally in the minor league systems of the New York Yankees and Washington Senators. After returning to Cobleskill as a member of the faculty, Hisert would serve as Head Men’s Basketball Coach from 1965 until 1970.

A recipient of the State University Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1977, Dr. Hisert retired from Cobleskill’s Business and Computer Technologies Division after a thirty-five year career holding the rank of professor upon his retirement. He and his wife Nancy reside in Cobleskill, NY where the Fighting Tiger mentor is an active member of the Cobleskill Country Club.
