FIGHTING TIGER LAX POUNDS DEAN 17-4 TO CLOSE 2008 SEASON

The SUNY Cobleskill men’s lacrosse team rebounded from a crushing 10-9 overtime home loss to Jefferson Community College on Saturday, which effectively ended their NJCAA Region III Tournament hopes, to pound the visiting Bulldogs of Dean College in regional action on Sunday at the Cobleskill Lacrosse Complex by a 17-4 margin. The victory closes out the Fighting Tigers 2008 season with a 7-7 overall record including a 5-5 mark versus NJCAA Region III opponents giving the team its first .500 season since 1993.
The Orange & Black peppered the Bulldog defense throughout the contest with 51 total shots scoring early and often to decide the issue by the half. Senior midfielder Andrew Abbott, Onondaga, NY, Corcoran High School, exploded for seven goals and an assist in the contest to spearhead an aggressive Cobleskill attack which showed no mercy to the visiting Bulldogs.
Senior attackman Matt Hughes, Wallkill, NY, Wallkill High School, contributed a four goal effort complimented by freshman attackman Jake Hutchins, East Greenbush, NY, who passed out five assists on the day. Freshman midfielder Alex Harwykliewicz, West Babylon, NY, West Babylon High School, tossed in a pair of goals while freshman attackman Brendan Wessmen, Seaford, NY, Seaford High School, added goal and an assist. The Fighting Tigers also received solo goals from: freshman midfielder Hunter D’Andraia, Albany, NY, New Paltz High School, freshman midfielder Greg Tarsa, Averill Park, NY, Averill Park High School, and freshman midfielder Corey Hornicek, Hortonville, NY, Sullivan West High School.
In the nets, freshman starting goalie Rob McDonald, Amherst, NY, Amherst High School, made 12 saves in three periods of work while freshman Knezick, Columbia, NJ, Northeast Regional High School, posted five fourth period saves to close out the victory for the Fighting Tigers. |
