SUNY COBLESKILL’S NEVINS NAMED TO NJCAA LACROSSE HALL-OF-FAME
The National Junior College Lacrosse Coaches Association announced today that legendary SUNY Cobleskill coach Stan Nevins will be inducted as part of the association’s Hall-of-Fame Class of 2008. Nevins will be inducted into the Hall-of-Fame during the National Junior College Athletic Association’s (NJCAA) Lacrosse Championship Weekend Banquet to be held on Friday May 9th beginning at 6:30 PM at Nassau Community College in Garden City, NY.
Coach Nevins founded the SUNY Cobleskill program and guided the college’s powerhouse squads of the 1970's and 1980's. During his 22-year tenure with the program: he compiled a record of 184 wins and 66 losses for a winning percentage of 73.6% while capturing two Mountain Valley Conference, eight NJCAA Region III Championships and guiding Cobleskill to National Championship Runners-up finishes three times. He was named NJCAA National Coach-of-the-Year in 1976 and 1980.
Inducted into the SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Hall-of-Fame in 1996, Nevins also spent 22 years as the college’s Head Wrestling Coach: amassing an overall record of 196-36 for an 84.5% winning percentage, winning a NJCAA Region III Championship in 1969 and earning NJCAA Region III Coach-of-the-Year honors 10 times during his time leading the program. Nevins also coached men’s and women’s cross country for the Fighting Tigers winning five men’s and six women’s Mountain Valley Conference Championships and capturing three women’s NJCAA Region III Championships during his career.
SUNY Cobleskill yearly awards the Stanley Nevins Outstanding Male Athlete-of the-Year Award to the college’s most outstanding male athlete as voted by the college’s athletic coaching and athletic support staff.
