ASSISTANT LACROSSE COACH JOE BENNETT
Assistant men’s lacrosse coach Joe Bennett enters his first season on the bench with the Fighting Tigers but he is hardly a stranger to the program. A standout during his prep years as a defenseman for Ithaca High School in Ithaca, NY; Bennett was an All-Regional defenseman for Cobleskill in 1974, and the captain of Coach Stanley Nevins first Regional Championship team. After leaving Cobleskill, the Ithaca native returned home to continue his education and playing career at Ithaca College earning his degree in Business Administration while serving as the captain of the Bombers 1977 squad.
Bennett began his lacrosse coaching career at the high school level when he took over as the Head Varsity Coach at Seton Catholic High School in Binghamton, NY in 1989. He then accepted the job as the Assistant Varsity Coach at Chenango Forks High School in Binghamton, NY where he served from 1990 thru1992. He moved to the college level in 1992 accepting an assistant coaching position at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY from 1992 thru 1995.
He returned to the high school coaching ranks in 1995 when he took over the head coaching position at Shaker High School in Latham, NY compiling an overall record of 111-51 with the Blue Bison and leading the program to Suburban Council Championships in 1997, 2000 and 2001 to go with Section II Class A Championships in 1997 and 2000. Additionally He also served as the Head Coach of the Adirondack Region’s New York Empire State Games entry from 1997 thru 2002.
Bennett currently lives in Latham, NY and is employed by Shaker High School, as a Teachers Aid in Special Education while serving as the President of the NCCSD Teacher Aides Unit of CSEA Local 1000. In his spare time he is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in History through Empire State College.
