FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S SOCCER BLASTS JEFFERSON CANNONEERS 9-0
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s soccer team traveled to Jefferson Community College in Watertown, NY on Saturday to meet the host Cannoneers of the Mid States Conference. Ranked number six in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll, the Fighting Tigers did not forget to pack their heavy artillery as Cobleskill blasted their hosts into submission by a 9-0 margin. With the victory the orange and black boost their season record to an impressive 13-1 on the year.
“Before the game started we knew that with two games remaining in the regular season that we needed to approach this game from the perspective that we have to be playing our best soccer at this stage of the season,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Rob Szmarz. “Today we had exactly that type of performance. In less than ideal weather conditions we were able to move the ball at will and score frequently as evidenced by our eight first half goals. Now it’s time to get focused on playing Broome on Tuesday and to be playing our best soccer heading into the post-season.”
Senior midfielder Gilbert Francillon, Brooklyn, NY, Midwood High School, was the spearhead of the Fighting Tiger offensive attack pounding the Cannoneer defense for three goals and three assists on the afternoon. Freshman Jamey Crumb, McGraw, NY, McGraw High School, also contributed to the assault on the Jefferson net with a pair of goals and an assist in the contest.
Cobleskill also received scoring efforts from senior forward Hugh Campbell, Bronx, NY, Evander Childs High School, with a goal and an assist and from freshman midfielder Rilwan Salawu, Brooklyn, NY, Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, who also tallied a goal and an assist in the game. Freshman Essaha Jallow, Bronx, NY, Dewitt Clinton High School, and senior midfielder Kenny Day, Mechanicville, NY, Mechanicville High School, also contributed a goal each to the Cobleskill offensive machine. Fighting Tiger freshman defender Menesky Magloire, Brooklyn, NY, Clara Barton High School, and freshman midfielder Kohdai Kohzaki, Kitami, Japan, Ryokuryo, each had an assist in the contest to close out the Fighting Tiger statisical column.
On the defensive end of the field the Fighting Tigers posted their ninth shutout of the season in 14 games as the goalie tandem of freshman starter Abdou Seck, Bronx, NY, Dewitt Clinton High School, and freshman Josh Oxentine, Stillwater, NY, Stillwater High School, combined for six saves in the contest.
The Fighting Tigers close out the regular season on Tuesday October 17th when they host the Hornets of Broome Community College in the team’s final regular season home match of the year beginning at 4:00 PM at the Cobleskill Soccer Complex. |
