COBLESKILL’S CAMPBELL NAMED TO FIRST TEAM NJCAA MEN’S SOCCER
ALL-AMERICAN TEAM
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced today that SUNY Cobleskill men’s soccer team member senior Hugh Campbell, Bronx, NY, Dewitt Clinton High School, has been named to the 2006 NJCAA Division III First All-American Team. The dynamic striker led the Fighting Tigers to the best season in program history with a 15-2-1 overall record and to the runner-up position in the 2006 NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament.
Having earlier earned First Team All-Region III honors as well as All-Mountain Valley Conference honors for the Fighting Tigers during the season; Campbell proved to be an explosive offensive force scoring 13 goals and passing out six assists on the year, to lead the team in scoring with 32 total points. The Bronx resident was also named to the All-Region III Team and the All-Mountain Valley Conference Team during is freshman season with the program in 2005.
“It is truly a great honor to be named as an All-American and I am extremely proud of Hugh for everything that he’s done for our program,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Rob Szmarz. “As a player he is a physical presence, who possesses the: size, speed and ball control skills that enable him to have his way with opposing defenders. Moreover, Hugh is a self motivated person who is going to be very successful in life.”
During his four years at Cobleskill, Head Coach Rob Szmarz’s teams have returned the Fighting Tiger program to national prominence by posting a 35-25-4 overall record advancing to post season play in 2005 and 2006. This season Cobleskill finished the season ranked sixth in the final NJCAA Division III Regular Season National Poll.
