FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S SOCCER TOPS WORD OF LIFE BIBLE INSTITUTE 11-1
It was the type of offensive performance that people had been waiting for from the SUNY Cobleskill men’s soccer team all season as the Fighting Tigers shredded the visiting Huskies of Word of Life Bible Institute on Saturday at the Cobleskill Soccer Complex by an 11-1 margin. The victory moves the Cobleskill record to 6-1 on the season and Cobleskill currently holds the number eighteen spot in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tigers scored early and often finding the back of the net 10 times during the first half of the match to decide the outcome. Defensively Cobleskill limited the Huskies to eight shots on goal and one corner kick as opposed to their own totals of 25 shots on goal and five corner kicks.
“Our first few goals were highlight reel efforts and went a long way to helping us win comfortably,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Rob Szmarz. “We had a chance to play everyone today and were able to get a good look at some people who have received limited minutes through our first few games. We always feel our next game is the most important one which is magnified considering that Mohawk Valley comes to town on Monday afternoon.”
Senior forward Hugh Campbell, Bronx, NY, Evander Childs High School, led the Cobleskill assault with three goals and an assist while freshman forward Travis Thrush, Middleburgh, NY, Middleburgh High School, also added a career high three goals on the afternoon.
The Fighting Tigers also received scoring efforts from freshman forward Jamey Crumb, McGraw, NY, McGraw High School, with a goal and two assists, freshman midfielder Greg Klopfer, Voorheesville, NY, Voorheesville High School, with a goal and two assists, freshman midfielder Rilwan Saluwu, Brooklyn, NY, Franklin D. Roosevelt, with a goal and two assists, freshman forward Aaron Aiken, Hartford, NY, Hartford High School, with a goal and from freshman Kohdai Kohzaki, Kitami, Japan, Ryokuryo High School, who scored during the outing. Senior midfielder Tom Wickham, Broadalbin, NY, Broadalbin-Perth High School, and senior defender Josh Cookfair, Scotia, NY, Schalmont High School, each added a pair of assists for the Fighting Tigers. In all, 14 Cobleskill players found their way into the scoring column with goals or assists.
Cobleskill will next face Mohawk Valley Community College in a Mountain Valley Conference contest on Monday September 25th at the Cobleskill Soccer Complex beginning at 4:00 PM. |
