FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S SOCCER TOPS NORTH COUNTRY 4-1
Less than twenty-four hours after defeating nationally ranked Genesee Community College in a shootout in Cobleskill, NY on Saturday the SUNY Cobleskill men’s soccer team was headed to do battle with the Saints of North Country Community College on Sunday in Saranac Lake, NY. The Fighting Tigers led at halftime by a 1-0 margin then exploded in the second half for three goals on their way to a 4-1 victory. Cobleskill is currently 11-1 overall on the season and currently ranked second in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Freshman midfielder/forward Ryan Stevens, Niskayuna, NY, Christian Brothers Academy, scored twice to lead the Orange & Black while freshman forward Lucas Heffron, Lansing, NY, Lansing High School, continued his strong play adding a goal and an assist in the victory. The team’s goal scoring was rounded out by senior midfielder Rilwan Salawu, Brooklyn, NY, Franklin D. Roosevelt High School, who scored once in the contest.
The Fighting Tigers continued to show a top-notch passing attack on the afternoon as assists were credited to: freshman midfielder Zakaria Kande, Bronx, NY, Bronx Comprehensive High School, freshman forward Cedric Bouemboue, Brooklyn, NY, Aviation High School, and senior midfielder Greg Klopfer, Voorheesville, NY, Voorheesville High School.
“We were able to pick up where we left off from the Genesee game and the goals kept pouring in for us,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Rob Szmarz. “This game was at the end of us playing four games this week which saw us able to get through with only one blemish,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Rob Szmarz. “We have only one match over the next week and a half so hopefully some of our nagging injuries can heal in time for the play-offs which are not that far off in the distant future.”
Cobleskill will return to action on Wednesday October 3rd when they travel to Auburn, NY to meet the Spartans of Cayuga Community College for a Region III Division III contest with kick-off schedule for 4:00 PM.
