FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S SOCCER DEFEAT CAYUGA SPARTANS 4-1
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s soccer team continued to be formidable road warriors on Wednesday taking to the highway to defeat the Spartans of Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY by a 4-1 margin in Region III Division III play. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve their overall record to 12-1on the year while the Spartans drop to 3-9 on the season. Cobleskill is currently ranked fifth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
The Fighting Tigers balanced offense unleashed a four-goal first half barrage that totally overwhelmed the Spartans defense and decided the outcome before the half. Senior NJCAA All-American Candidate midfielder Essaha Jallow, Bronx, NY, Dewitt Clinton High School, scored a goal and passed out an assist on the afternoon as did freshman midfielder David Gardiner, Mata, NY, Ballston Spa High School, and senior midfielder Rilwan Salawu, Brooklyn, NY, Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. Freshman forward Cedric Bouemboue, Brooklyn, NY, Aviation High School, also scored in the contest for the Orange & Black and freshman forward Lucas Heffron, Lansing, NY, Lasing High School, was also credited with an assist in the game.
“We accomplished our mission today. We went out and won convincingly on the road and suffered no injuries which at this time of the year is extremely important,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Rob Szmarz. “We now have a week long break which should allow most of our nagging injuries to heal for what we hope will be a successful play-off run.”
Cobleskill will take the weekend off then return to action on Wednesday October 10th traveling to Glens Falls, NY to meet the Timberwolves of Adirondack Community College for their final Mountain Valley Conference game of the season with kick-off scheduled for 4:30 PM. |
