FORMER FIGHTING TIGER BERGAN NAMED SUNYAC TOURNAMENT MVP
Former SUNY Cobleskill goalkeeper Scott Bergen, Schenectady, NY, Mohonasen High School, has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player (SUNYAC) after leading SUNY Fredonia to the 2007 SUNYAC Championship the programs first since 1998. Bergen was earlier named as a Second Team All-SUNYAC selection for his work during the 2007 campaign.
In the championship tournament Bergen posted a 1-0 shutout victory over SUNY Cortland in the semifinals then held SUNY Plattsburgh scoreless in a 0-0 tie in the championship game with the Blue Devils then taking the league title in a shootout. The Cobleskill alumnus held the Cardinals to only two goals in four attempts as Fredonia took the shootout by a 4-2 margin to secure the title.
Led by Bergen, SUNY Fredonia will now advance to the NCAA Division III National Championships Tournament meeting Hobart College in the first round at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY on either Friday November 9th or Saturday November 10th. |
