SUNY COBLESKILL AND HERKIMER COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO MEET IN NJCAA BATTLE OF NATIONAL MEN’S SOCCER POWERS
The SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers and Herkimer Community College Generals men’s soccer programs will take center stage on Tuesday September 4th in an early season meeting between National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III powerhouses beginning at 4:00 PM at the Cobleskill Soccer Complex. The game will be the home opener for the Fighting Tigers and serve as the 2007 Mountain Valley Conference kick-off for both programs.
The Fighting Tigers are currently ranked ninth in the opening NJCAA Division III National Poll and enter the contest with an unblemished 2-0 mark after easily handling the field at the SUNY Delhi Invitational over the weekend blanking Alfred State College on Saturday by a 6-0 score then downing Jamestown Community College on Sunday by a 12-2 tally.
Heading into the contest the Generals are currently ranked second in the opening NJCAA Division III National Poll with a perfect 2-0 record after winning their own Coliseum Soccer Club Classic this past weekend defeating Santa Rosa Junior College in the first game by a 2-0 score on Saturday then beating Borough of Manhattan Community College by a 1-0 margin on Sunday.
The opening season battle is a rematch of the 2006 NJCAA Region III Division III Championship game which saw the Generals top the Fighting Tigers by a 1-0 margin in double overtime in Herkimer, NY on their way to a National Runner-up finish at the 2006 NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. For the season the Generals finished the year with a 20-2-1 overall record while the Fighting Tigers closed the 2006 campaign with a program best 15-2-1 overall mark.
