FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S SOCCER MAULS CLINTON COUGARS 7-0
Fresh off their 2-1 victory over number two ranked Herkimer Community College on Tuesday the SUNY Cobleskill men’s soccer team sharpened their claws and carved up visiting Clinton Community College Cougars on Saturday at the Cobleskill Soccer Complex by a 7-0 margin. The win improves the Fighting Tigers overall record to 4-0 on the season. Cobleskill is currently ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Freshman forward Emile Barnett, Huntington, NY, John Glenn High School, scored twice while freshman midfielder/forward Ryan Stevens, Niskayuna, NY, Christian Brothers Academy, came off the disabled list to score a goal and pass out an assist. Freshman forward Tajae Williams, Uniondale, NY, Uniondale High School, also had a goal and an assist on the afternoon while freshman defender Jacob Spiegel, Chazy, NY, Chazy High School, contributed a goal. Senior defender Jordan Brown, Laurens, NY, Laurens High School, and freshman forward Kwame Sarpong, Bronx, NY, Beacon High School, each chipped in an assist for the Orange & Black in the victory.
Cobleskill also scored on a pair of penalty kicks during the contest as senior midfielder Essaha Jallow, Bronx, NY, Dewitt Clinton High School, and senior forward Carlton Wildman, Huntington, NY, John Glenn High School, each converted opportunities for the Fighting Tigers in the contest.
“To be honest we weren’t pleased with our scoring in the first half but we were pleased with our possession ability. The only danger that I see is that you can become a team like England’s Arsenal which controls the ball for entire matches but comes away with little to show in terms of scoring,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Rob Szmarz. “In the second half we found our scoring knack and put home five goals after our first group staked us to a 2-0 halftime advantage. Individually I thought that Ryan Stevens and Chris Struffolino (freshman, Schenectady, NY, Schalmont High School) each looked good for coming off the disabled list.”
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Monday September 10th when they travel to Delhi, NY, to meet the Broncos of SUNY Delhi for a Mountain Valley Conference match with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 PM. |
