SUNY COBLESKILL MEN’S SOCCER BEATS ALBANY COLLEGE OF PHARMACY
The SUNY Cobleskill men’s soccer team continued their winning ways on Friday defeating a stubborn squad from Albany College of Pharmacy by a 2-0 margin at the Cobleskill Soccer Complex. The victory improves the Fighting Tigers overall record to 8-0 on the season. Cobleskill is currently ranked second in the current NJCAA Division III National Poll.
As the first half moved towards a scoreless tie, senior midfielder Essaha Jallow, Bronx, NY, Dewitt Clinton High School, took a pass from senior midfielder Rilwan Salawu, Brooklyn, NY, F.D. Roosevelt High School, with 1:15 remaining to play in the period and found the back of the Panther’s net. In the second half a determined Jallow ended the visitors’ hopes for an upset scoring with 36:40 remaining in regulation on a pass from freshman forward Lucas Heffron, Lansing, NY, Lansing High School, to cement the 2-0 victory despite out shooting the opposition by a 44-4 margin.
Freshman Corey Lewis, Chazy, NY, Chazy High School, recorded his third consecutive shutout needing only to make one save on the afternoon as the suffocating Fighting Tiger defense gave the Panthers little breathing room on the field to operate in during the majority of the contest.
“I thought that we played well and we did another excellent job of possessing the ball. The more you have the ball the fewer opportunities they have to score and from that standpoint we accomplished our mission successfully,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Rob Szmarz. “The only I think that I would have liked us to do today is to find that extra offensive oomph to put things away early. Now we have to really buckle down this week as we have thee of the region’s top teams on our schedule.”
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Monday September 24th when they travel to Utica, NY to face Mohawk Valley Community College for a Mountain Valley Conference contest with kick-off at 4:00 PM.
