FIGHTING TIGER MEN’S SOCCER SINKS FMCC RAIDERS 8-2 IN MVC PLAY
It was the game that SUNY Cobleskill Head Men’s Soccer Coach Rob Szmarz had been looking for all season. In other words it was a game in which the Fighting Tigers turned dominant offensive possessions and quality scoring opportunities into goals. Led by an explosive offensive output, Cobleskill sunk the visiting Raiders of Fulton-Montgomery Community College by an 8-2 margin to run the team’s current unbeaten streak to four games. The victory also put the Fighting Tiger overall record to 4-3-1 on the season with a 3-1-1 record in Mountain Valley Conference play.
“We came out on fire hitting the post on two of our first four shots and then we were able to convert our opportunities,” said the Fighting Tiger mentor. “I’m really proud of our guys for showing that not only can we dominate possession but that we can convert quality opportunities as well. It was also nice to be able to give some people time off because we have three important road games coming up in a six day stretch.”
Explosive freshman Gilbert Francillon, Brooklyn, NY, Midwood High School, continued his torrid scoring barrage with a two goal, one assist effort. Fellow freshman striker Hugh Campbell, Bronx NY, Evander Childs High School, notched two goals and three assists on the afternoon while senior midfielder Devin Stickle, Downsville, NY, Downsville High School, scored a goal and passed out three assists. Freshman Justin Hines, Philmont, NY, Taconic Hills High School, was also a multiple scorer for the Fighting Tigers with a goal and an assist in the victory.
Cobleskill also received goal scoring efforts from senior forward Bill Edsell, Smithtown, NY, St. James High School, and from freshman Ken Day, Mechanicville, NY, Mechanicville High School. Senior forward Travis White, Sidney, NY, Sidney High School, and freshman midfielder Don Harrison, Bronx, NY, Evander Childs High School, each chipped in an assist for the Fighting Tigers during the afternoon’s festivities.
Cobleskill will take to the road this weekend when they travel to Saranac Lake, NY to meet the Saints of North Country Community College for an intra-regional contest with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 PM.
