The Fighting Tigers concluded the 2008 season with a fourth place finish at the 2008 NJCAA Region III Division III Championship Tournament hosted by Adirondack Community College in Glens Falls, NY over this past weekend.
Greg Klopfer (pictured right) posted a perfect 4-0 record in conference play this season at the number three singles position for the Fighting Tigers. The Cobleskill team captain finished the year with a 10-1 overall singles record finishing the campaign as the NJCAA Region III Runner-up at the number three singles slot losing in the flight’s championship match.
Zak Kraehmer (Pictured below) was also a perfect 4-0 versus conference opponents at the number four singles position for the Fighting Tigers in only his first year of organized tennis. The talented rookie finished the season with an 8-2 overall singles record while advance to the regional semifinal round.
Klopfer and Kraehmer also earned All-Mountain Valley Conference honors at the number two doubles position where the dynamic duo were the backbone of the Fighting Tigers attack posting a perfect 4-0 record against league opponents while finishing the year with a 10-1 overall record. The tandem finished the season as the NJCAA Region III Runners-up losing in the regional championship match.

“Throughout the year I have referred to Klopfer and Kraehmer as the backbone of our team and I think their singles and doubles records speaks volumes about what kind of season they’ve had for us,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Scott Hill. “Beyond their success on the court, these are two dedicated student/athletes who I have enjoyed working with throughout this season.
I firmly believe that you build a successful program with quality people who are committed to excellence on and off the court. Greg Klopfer and Zak Kraehmer are perfect examples of this philosophy and we are a far better program for the contributions they’ve made to SUNY Cobleskill Tennis this year.”
