FIGHTING TIGER TENNIS DROPS 6-3 DECISION TO MVCC
Forced inside by some inclement early April weather the SUNY Cobleskill tennis team met Mohawk Valley Community College in both programs’ opening Mountain Valley Conference match of the 2007 season. After nearly five hours of play it was the visiting Hawks that emerged victorious from the early season brawl by a 6-3 margin over the Fighting Tigers at the Cobleskill Tennis Complex. Cobleskill falls to 1-2 overall on the season after the defeat.
“We had opportunities to win, but hats off to Mohawk Valley they out ground us and now we’ll try to move forward,” said Fighting Tiger Head Coach Scott Hill.
Once again defending NJCAA Region III First Singles Champion senior Steve Weiss, Getzville, NY, Williamsville North High School, was impressive for the Fighting Tigers rallying to take his match by scores of 6-7, 6-1 and 6-4. Senior Andy Steiner, Perry, NY, Perry High School, also continued his strong play taking the number two singles slot by scores of 6-7, 6-3 and 6-3. The Fighting Tigers other victory in the match was recorded by freshman Greg Klopfer, Voorheesville, NY, Voorheesville High School, at the number four singles spot by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Monday April 9th when they travel to Syracuse, NY to face Onondaga Community College beginning at 4:00 PM. |
